Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal, major step taken towards making UP a 'Skill Hub'

Lucknow, 10 May

(HS): Under the direction of Kapil Dev Agarwal, Minister of State (Independent

Charge) for Vocational Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, the

Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has prepared a comprehensive action

plan to make Uttar Pradesh the country's leading skill hub. The

mission has initiated the process of connecting youth with employment-oriented

and industry-based training on a large scale over the next three months by

sending proposals for skill development training to 13 key departments in the

state.

Under this ambitious initiative, urban poor

families, rural youth, women self-help groups, minority communities,

construction labour families, beneficiaries of government schemes and youth

associated with prisons will be provided training as per their interest and

current demand of industries, so that better opportunities for self-employment

and employment can be provided to them.

Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal stated that under the

leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is promoting

skill development as the most effective means to empower youth with

self-reliance. He stated that the government's goal is not only to provide

training, but also to empower youth economically by connecting them with

employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship. He stated that departmental

coordination is being employed in a mission mode to ensure access to skill

training for every segment of the state.

Mission Director Pulkit Khare has issued a letter

to the concerned departments requesting them to share training goals and action

plans. Mission Headquarters is expected to allocate training goals in the first

week of June. All departments have also been asked to designate nodal officers

so that training programs can be conducted expeditiously.

Under this initiative, youth associated with the

State Urban Development Agency (SUDA), Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods

Mission, Women's Welfare Department, Social Welfare Department, and Rural

Development Department will be trained in accordance with the demands of modern

industries. Meanwhile, through the Prison Administration and Correctional

Services Department, important initiatives will be taken towards rehabilitation

and self-reliance of youth imprisoned in jails by connecting them with skills

training.

Mission Director Pulkit Khare stated that UPSDM is

nationally recognized as an awarding body by NCVET, ensuring quality training

and certification. Currently, the mission has partnered with government

institutions, as well as reputable private and industrial entities, as training

partners. Training programs will be conducted in accordance with the Government

of India's Cost Common Norms (CCN), ensuring both transparency and quality.

He informed that the objective of UPSDM is to

provide short-term, employment-oriented and industry-based training to youth in

the age group of 14 to 35 years. In the last 10 years, 8,09,494 youth have been

trained by the mission, out of which 3,04,810 youth have been linked to

employment and self employment opportunities. This is an important achievement

in the field of skill development in the state. The mission aims to connect the

poorest families of the society and the beneficiaries of various government

schemes with the mainstream economy. With the cooperation of all departments,

youth will be given quality skill training to make them self-reliant and

capable of self-employment.

The training proposal has been sent by the Uttar

Pradesh Skill Development Mission to the Secondary Education Department,

Minority Welfare Department, State Urban Development Agency (SUDA), Joint

Commissioner Industries Office, State Drinking Water and Sanitation Mission,

Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, Building and Other Construction

Workers Welfare Board, Prison Administration and Correctional Services

Department, Women Welfare Department, Social Welfare Department, Rural

Development Department, Tourism Department and Directorate of Handloom and

Textile Industry.
