New Delhi, 10 May (H.S.):

Hockey India will conduct the senior women’s national coaching camp from May 11 to 20 as part of preparations for upcoming tournaments. The camp is significant as the team will travel to Australia for an exposure tour ahead of the FIH Nations Cup, which will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from June 15 to 21.

Speaking about the upcoming camp on Sunday, head coach Marijne said, “This will be a short camp before our upcoming tour of Australia. The main focus of this camp will be on the fitness aspects of the game and improving them. We want to keep performing well in this area and take the next step as a team.”

The camp will also provide an opportunity to assess the team’s strengths ahead of important competitions later this year. These include the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026, scheduled to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to 30, and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan from September 19 to October 4.

The importance of the camp is further heightened by the fact that the winner of the FIH Nations Cup will directly qualify for the 2026–27 FIH Hockey Pro League. In addition, the winner of the 2026–27 FIH Hockey Pro League will directly qualify for the LA 2028 Olympics.

The upcoming camp will include the same 31 players who were part of the previous national camp held in April under the supervision of chief coach Sjoerd Marijne. This will be another important phase of the team’s preparation, with primary emphasis on strengthening player coordination, improving fitness levels and refining tactical aspects of the game.
