
Bhubaneswar, 10 May (H.S.) The Odisha Crime Branch has initiated a detailed investigation into the mob lynching of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain in Balianta area of Bhubaneswar.
A Crime Branch team led by Superintendent of Police Anirudha Routray visited Balianta Police Station on Sunday as part of the first phase of the investigation. The team collected relevant case documents and records from the investigating officer.
Speaking to the media, Anirudha Routray said the investigation would be conducted strictly on the basis of facts and evidence to ensure a fair and transparent probe.
Crime Branch DIG B Gangadhar informed that two special teams, comprising 10 officers each, have been constituted for the investigation. The teams include experts from scientific and cyber divisions, along with dog squads to assist in evidence collection and analysis.
According to officials, the probe will examine all aspects of the incident, including allegations of sexual assault, the subsequent mob lynching, and possible lapses or negligence on the part of the police.
The DIG further stated that the accused persons already arrested in connection with the case would be brought under Crime Branch remand for sustained interrogation.
The swift transfer of the sensitive case to the Crime Branch highlights the seriousness with which the Odisha Police is handling the matter. Further developments are awaited as the investigation progresses.
