Cachar (Assam), 10 May (HS): Cachar Police carried out two separate anti-narcotics operations and seized a huge quantity of suspected heroin worth around ₹2.82 crore in the black market, Cachar Superintendent of Police informed on Sunday. Two persons were arrested in connection with the cases.

In the first operation, launched near Gastola Tiniali under Sonai Police Station, police intercepted illegal transportation of NDPS contraband and apprehended one person identified as Riyaz Uddin Laskar. During the search, seven soap boxes containing suspected heroin were recovered from his possession. The seized contraband weighed 123.51 grams. Police also recovered cash amounting to ₹40,000 from the accused.

In another operation conducted during naka checking in front of Lailapur Police Outpost, police intercepted a scooty bearing registration number AS-11Z-7991. Upon searching the vehicle, 33 multi-coloured soap boxes containing suspected heroin were recovered from the under-seat storage compartment of the scooty. The contraband was seized from the possession of Jiyabur Rahman Laskar. The total weight of the suspected heroin was found to be 441.09 grams.

Police have arrested both accused persons and initiated legal proceedings under the NDPS Act.------------
