Bangladesh on Sunday announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Nigar Sultana will once again lead the side, while Nahida Akter has been named vice-captain. The tournament will begin in England on June 12.
Nigar Sultana will captain the Bangladesh women’s team in a third consecutive T20 World Cup. She had also led the side in the 2023 and 2024 editions. Batter Taj Nehar has returned to the squad, while Sharmin Sultana, who was part of Bangladesh’s previous series against Sri Lanka, has not been included. In addition, only two fast bowlers, Marufa Akter and Fariha Islam, have been selected for the World Cup.
Nahida Akter, Sultana Khatun, Sanjida Akter Meghla, Fahima Khatun, Shorna and Rabeya will lead the spin attack.
The Bangladesh team will leave for Edinburgh, Scotland, on May 25, where it will play a tri-series against Scotland and the Netherlands. The purpose of the series is to help the players adapt to local conditions ahead of the main tournament.
After that, the team will head to Loughborough in England for the official ICC World Cup warm-up matches before the tournament begins. Bangladesh will open its World Cup campaign against the Netherlands at Edgbaston on June 14.
