
Bhubaneswar, 10 May (H.S.): The Odisha Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the investigation into two sensitive cases registered at Balianta Police Station following the orders of the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha.
The cases, registered as Balianta PS Case No. 220/2026 and 221/2026, relate to an alleged sexual assault on a victim in public view and the subsequent death of one Soumya Ranjan Swain in a mob-related incident. Given the sensitive nature of the incidents, the CID Crime Branch, Cuttack, has assumed full control of the investigation.
The cases have been re-registered as CID CB Police Station Case No. 06/2026 and 07/2026 dated May 9, 2026, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Ratnaprava Satapathy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, CID Crime Branch, has been deputed to conduct the investigation at the spot.
The investigation has commenced under the direct supervision of Anirudha Routray, Superintendent of Police, CID Crime Branch, to ensure clarity, transparency, and fairness in the probe.
