Lucknow, 10 May

(HS): Samajwadi Party head Akhilesh Yadav attacked the BJP on Sunday over the

enlargement of Uttar Pradesh's cabinet, expressing concerns about accommodating

turncoat politicians, unhappy MLAs, and coalition partners. Later in the day,

Yogi Adityanath's administration plans to expand its Cabinet.

In a post on X, the Samajwadi Party chief stated

that the people is wondering whether all defectors from other parties who have

joined the BJP would be rewarded with ministerial positions, despite the fact

that the state Cabinet has just six openings. People are wondering why there

are just six vacancies in the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet although the number of

leaders who moved sides from other parties is significantly bigger. Will they

all receive cabinet positions? Yadav wrote in the post.

He also questioned the criterion that would be used

if only a few lawmakers from a specific community were chosen for ministerial

positions. What criteria would be used to choose one MLA from among multiple

lawmakers from a certain community? He inquired. The former chief minister also

expressed worry about potential discontent among people who may not be selected

for Cabinet positions. What will happen to the remaining defectors? Will their

neglect and humiliation be alleviated via a compromise, or will they see that

the BJP belongs to no one? He said. Yadav claimed that leaders excluded from the

Cabinet expansion would feel sulky and may struggle to face voters in their

areas.

Will those who were left out not feel betrayed?

Will they be able to show their faces in their respective turf? He inquired. Yadav, who targeted BJP legislators awaiting

cabinet seats, claimed that many governing party figures had been waiting for

years to become ministers. What about the BJP's own members, who have been

drying up like thorns while waiting to become ministers? He said. The Samajwadi

Party president also questioned if cutting incumbent ministers' portfolios

would give the message to the people that they had failed in

governing. Will removing departments from present ministers not send the

message that they were unsuccessful and so stripped of their ministries? He

suggested such ministers may lose elections without even fighting.

Yadav criticized the BJP's allies, questioning if

coalition partners will gain genuine representation or continue to feel

marginalized. Will alliance partners receive more than just guarantees, or will

they be dismissed with the message tum the jinke sahare, wo hue na tumhare

(those on whom you relied, never actually belonged to you), he remarked. Yadav

attacked the BJP government's performance, claiming that the final nine months

until the next elections will not change popular view. The public is also questioning what these

ministers can accomplish in the past nine months since the administration has

failed to produce anything in nine years, he stated. Yadav claimed that the BJP

administration has only provided corruption and atrocities, assaults on the

PDA, and the burden of inflation and unemployment, making life tough for

people.
