Bhubaneswar, 10 May (H.S.): Odisha Police on Sunday took strict disciplinary action in connection with the mob lynching of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain in Balianta, ordering the transfer of the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) and suspension of four police personnel over alleged negligence in duty.

According to official sources, Balianta Police Station IIC Anil Kumar Parida has been attached to the Urban Police District (UPD) headquarters in Bhubaneswar. In his place, Inspector Rashmita Behera has been appointed as the new IIC of Balianta Police Station.

In addition to the transfer, one Sub-Inspector, one Assistant Sub-Inspector, one Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF) personnel, and one constable have been placed under suspension.

Authorities have also issued notices to two home guards, initiating steps for their disengagement from service.

The action follows growing concerns over the police response to the May 7 incident near Ramachandrapur under Balianta police limits, where Soumya Ranjan Swain was allegedly beaten to death by a mob. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
