(HS): The Maharashtra Government has approved convert the Maharashtra Remote
Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC) in Nagpur into a company, and to register it
under Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013.
MRSAC is
currently registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The approval
to convert the status of MRSAC into a Company was granted by the Maharashtra Cabinet
on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
With the change
is status the work related to road network, urban planning, watershed
development, hilly area development, e-panchanama, agro-technology, mangrove
studies, groundwater management, mining etc, is expected to improve.
MRSAC was established
in 1988 to utilise geospatial technology in planning and decision making
processes. Recently technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine
Learning, Internet of Things, Web Services, Cloud Computing etc, were
introduced.
The decision to
convert MRSAC into a company was taken to effectively meet the present and
future challenges. The registered office of the company will be at Nagpur with
sub-centres (Branches) at Pune and Mumbai. The Chief Secretary will be the
ex-officio Chairperson of the Company and the new post of Managing Director
will be created. The operations of the company will be governed by the Board of
Directors.
