New Delhi, 07 April (H.S.):
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed IGNOU's 39th convocation on Tuesday, stressing the need to harmonise scientific advancement and modern development with ethical values and Indian traditions to foster an inclusive, responsible society.
Over 3.2 lakh learners received degrees, diplomas, and certificates digitally via DigiLocker; the Vice President also launched the IGNOU Alumni Portal.
Radhakrishnan highlighted artificial intelligence's pivotal role in education and societal growth but urged accountable deployment. He emphasised India's ethical heritage as its greatest strength, cautioning against sidelining traditions amid progress and advocating morality-guided innovation.
Praising IGNOU as a cornerstone of accessible higher education, he noted its 14 lakh+ learners—predominantly women and rural students—exemplifying education's democratisation. During COVID-19, platforms like SWAYAM and eGyanKosh ensured continuity.
He lauded the New Education Policy's four-year undergraduate programme and multiple exit options for flexibility. Delhi Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nageshwar Rao, and others attended.
