
Imphal, 07 April (HS): At least two minor children were killed in a suspected rocket attack by Kuki militants in Manipur’s Bishnupur district early Tuesday, triggering widespread tension and outrage in the region.
The incident took place around 2 am at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai under Moirang Police Station when a suspected projectile landed in a residential area and exploded. A five-year-old boy and a five-month-old infant girl Killed on the spot, while their mother sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Raj Medicity Hospital. Hospital sources confirmed that the children were brought dead, and the woman remains in a critical condition.
Following the incident, angry locals staged protests in Moirang. Demonstrators blocked roads and set ablaze two oil tankers and a goods-laden truck heading towards Churachandpur, further aggravating the situation.
Protesters also gheraoed Moirang Police Station, demanding immediate action against those responsible. Tyres and debris were burnt outside the police station as a mark of protest. Heavy security forces have been deployed in the area to control the situation. Officials stated that the situation remains tense but is under close monitoring.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the attack, calling it a “barbaric act,” and assured that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators after identification. He asserted that such acts of violence would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Moirang MLA Thokchom Shanti Singh also visited the site and termed the incident a terrorist act. He expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and urged the administration to take stringent action against the culprits.
Authorities have not yet officially confirmed who was behind the attack. An investigation is currently underway and further details are awaited.-----------
