Tamulpur, 06 April (HS): In view of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026 scheduled for April 9, the district administration has imposed restrictions on the movement of people and vehicles along the Indo–Bhutan international border in Tamulpur.
As per directives issued by the Election Commission, all entry and exit points along international land borders have been regulated to ensure smooth and secure conduct of the elections. District Magistrate and District Election Officer Simi Karan, IAS, in an order issued under Section 163(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, stated that movement through the Indo–Bhutan border routes will remain restricted from 5 PM on April 6 until the completion of polling.
During this period, general movement of individuals and vehicles will be limited. However, exemptions have been provided for emergency medical cases entering India from Bhutan, Indian citizens or foreign tourists who have already entered Bhutan with valid documents, and tourists intending to travel to Bhutan with proper travel permits.
Additionally, vehicles carrying essential perishable goods will be allowed subject to checking at border checkpoints. Voters from 43-Tamulpur (ST) and 44-Goreshwar Assembly constituencies will also be permitted entry into the district upon production of valid identification documents.
The district administration has urged all concerned departments, security agencies, and the general public to strictly adhere to these guidelines to facilitate peaceful and orderly elections.-----------
