Nagaon (Assam), 06 April (HS): A tense situation prevailed in No. 1 Kathpara area of Rupahihat on Sunday night after three suspected robbers killed following a mob assault by local residents.

According to reports, a group of around 10–12 robbers allegedly entered the house of a person named Mujjamel with the intent to commit robbery. Upon noticing the intruders, the family raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to rush to the spot.

As locals gathered, the robbers attempted to flee the scene. However, four of them were chased down and caught by the villagers. The caught individuals were severely beaten by the mob before being handed over to the police.

Police later shifted the injured accused to Nagaon Medical College Hospital for treatment. However, three of them succumbed to their injuries, sources said. The identity of the robbers has been partially established.

The incident has led to simmering tension in the area, with police maintaining vigil to prevent any further escalation.---------
