Bhubaneswar, 06 April (H.S.): The Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has issued a fresh clarification regarding the refill of 5 kg LPG cylinders, addressing concerns among students, migrant workers, and low-income households.

Earlier, apprehensions had arisen following indications of possible restrictions on the refill of small LPG cylinders, reportedly due to fears of supply disruptions linked to the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran. The initial communication caused anxiety, particularly among students residing in hostels or rented accommodations and daily wage earners who rely heavily on smaller cylinders for cooking.

In its latest statement, the department has clarified that there is no blanket ban on the refill of 5 kg LPG cylinders. It stated that eligible consumers—including students and labourers—can continue to avail refill services by presenting valid identity proof.

Officials further confirmed that 5 kg LPG cylinders supplied by oil marketing companies will remain available in the market. Consumers who have completed the mandatory e-KYC process can also purchase these cylinders upon verification of their identification documents.

At the same time, the department reiterated that strict enforcement measures will continue against illegal practices. Authorities will maintain vigilance against the use of unauthorized cylinders and instances of black marketing to ensure equitable distribution and prevent misuse of essential resources.

The clarification is expected to provide significant relief to thousands of consumers across the state who depend on smaller LPG cylinders for their daily cooking needs, reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted access to essential commodities.
