Hooghly, 06 April (H.S.): Political activity intensified in Ward No. 4 of Arambagh Municipality in Hooghly district on Sunday evening as Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Hemanta Bag carried out a public outreach campaign across the area.

After the campaign, the BJP organized a street-corner meeting in the Puratan Bazar area, right in front of a local office of the Trinamool Congress. During the event, local resident Subhash Chandra Dolui and businessman Alok Dhara formally joined the BJP, with party leaders handing them the party flag.

Sources said that Dolui was not previously associated with any political party but has now expressed willingness to actively support the BJP in the upcoming elections. Meanwhile, Dhara claimed that he was earlier associated with the BJP but had temporarily joined the Trinamool Congress due to business-related pressures, and has now returned to the BJP.

Speaking on the occasion, Hemanta Bag said that people are joining the BJP voluntarily and that a wave of change is clearly visible.

Reacting sharply, Mita Bag, the Trinamool Congress candidate, dismissed the development, stating that those who joined were never part of her party and termed the entire episode a “pre-planned drama.”
