Rains in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, 03 April (H.S.):The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued spells of isolated heavy rainfall across Kerala on Friday, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, prompting authorities to issue a public safety advisory.

According to the latest weather bulletin, districts including Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Malappuram are likely to experience intense rainfall at isolated locations. Thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph, raising concerns over potential damage and safety risks.

In addition to these districts, light to moderate rainfall is also expected in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. Officials have cautioned that lightning associated with thunderstorms can be extremely dangerous and may pose a serious threat to life, livestock, and electrical infrastructure.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and follow precautionary measures during adverse weather conditions. People are advised to disconnect electrical appliances to prevent damage from lightning surges and to avoid proximity to electrical devices during thunderstorms. The use of telephones, particularly landlines, should be minimized during lightning activity.

As strong winds are also expected, residents are advised to keep doors and windows securely closed and avoid standing near them. Staying indoors during thunderstorms is strongly recommended. Officials further advise minimizing physical contact with walls or floors, as lightning can travel through conductive surfaces.

Emergency response teams are on alert, and local administrations are closely monitoring the situation. Citizens are encouraged to stay updated through official weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety as unstable weather conditions persist across the state.
