Mecca (Saudi Arabia), 29 April (H.S.): Security forces at Mecca's entry points have detained six Pakistani citizens ahead of this year's Haj pilgrimage for flouting regulations, Saudi authorities confirmed.

The Interior Ministry stated the arrests stem from transporting 20 individuals for Haj without permits. One Pakistani was nabbed for residing in Mecca sans valid Haj visa; the other five for unauthorized pilgrim assistance. The Public Security Directorate urged compliance with Haj protocols, cooperation with officials for pilgrim safety, and warned of strict penalties for violations.

Following Saudi Gazette and Pakistan's Dunya News reports, security has been heightened. Only Haj visa holders may enter/stay in Mecca post-April 18; tourists or temporary visa holders risk violations. Fines range from SAR 20,000-100,000; Umrah visa holders were ordered to exit by April 18 or face fines, six months' jail, and deportation.

Arrestees were referred to

public prosecution. The ministry vowed to expose and penalize Haj committees aiding violators—fines, potential 10-year bans. Public urged to report breaches via 911 in Mecca, Riyadh, and Medina.
