New Delhi, 24 April (H.S.): Chief Justice Suryakant has expressed delight over the more than 92 percent voter turnout in the first phase of elections in West Bengal.

He stated, As a citizen of India, I am very happy to see the voting percentage. When people cast their votes, democracy strengthens. When people understand the importance of their vote, they do not engage in violence. Justice Bagchi also noted that no major incidents of violence occurred.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta described the 92 percent turnout as historic, adding that barring a few isolated incidents, the elections remained peaceful overall. He praised the exemplary performance of central forces.

Justice Bagchi further observed that wars are fought between kings, but it is the common people who lose their lives.
