Jaunpur,
April 24 (HS): In Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, women workers of the Bharatiya Janata
Party held a public outrage rally on Friday in protest against the failure to
pass the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. A large number of women from the BJP and other
organizations participated in the rally. The program was inaugurated by the
district's Minister in Charge and Energy Minister, A.K. Sharma. The rally began
at the city's TD College and proceeded through various routes.
Earlier,
speaking to reporters in the Collectorate auditorium, A.K. Sharma said that
women constitute half the country's population and that women have always been
given a high place in Indian culture. He said that under the leadership of
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an attempt was made to introduce the Nari Shakti
Vandan Act in 2023, but opposition parties—Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool
Congress, and DMK—joined forces to prevent its passage.
He
alleged that the opposition was obstructing the rights that women were supposed
to receive through this Act. He also said that there is anger among women on
this issue and protests are taking place across the country. BJP workers are
protesting with the determination to ensure that women get their rights.
Speaking
on the issue of smart meters, A.K. Sharma said that this system is based on
modern technology and will improve power management. He added that
approximately 8 million smart meters have been installed in the state, of which
7.5 million are on prepaid mode. However, due to lack of awareness among the
general public, the government has currently banned the installation of new
smart meters.
He
assured that no consumer's bill will be unnecessarily increased. Any complaints
will be resolved immediately. Additionally, prepaid meter consumers are being
offered benefits such as a 2 percent discount, security deposit refunds, and no
power disconnections even with limited negative balances. He stated that the
government is committed to providing relief to consumers and further action
will be taken only after reviewing the technical flaws.
