Mumbai, 24 Apr (HS): Artificial Intelligence should

be made more sensitive to prevent its misuse and to avoid problems in the

future. AI and machine learning are big tools for the development and cannot be

neglected, Governor of Maharashtra Jishnu Dev Varma said on Friday. The scope

of AI should reach the last segment of the society for inclusive development,

he added.

Varma was delivering the inaugural speech of Centre

for Innovation set up by the Atlas Skilltech University, Mumbai. He also

inaugurated a seminar on ‘Governing AI: Law, Technology and Society’, organised

by O P Jindal Global University in collaboration with Cyril Shroff Centre of

AI, Law and Regulations.

Emphasising sensitivity in use of AI, Varma said,

compassion, sympathy and empathy must be involved as technology is available

but not up to the mark, or science is available but cannot infuse human values.

He called for using science and technology for compassionate empathy for weaker

sections at school and college levels.

The late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri had

associated the slogan 'Jai Jawan' with the slogan 'Jai Kisan'. Then Prime

Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee during his time associated it with 'Jai Vigyan'

and Prime Minister Narendra Modi associated that slogan with 'Jai Anusandhan',

the Governor said, adding that the present era is of science and innovation.

Saying that the term 'developed India' does not mean

limited to economically prosperous India, the Governor said that 'developed

India' means' Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramay 'and for that every

individual must develop.

The

dying arts must be preserved

Today, thousands of traditional art forms and crafts

around the world are on the verge of extinction due to modernization as well as

increased use of machine-made objects. Even if one art goes extinct, we lose

our cultural identity. Therefore, the Governor said that the dying arts should

be preserved and promoted and universities should take the lead in this regard.

The art should not be confined to a museum should be rejuvenated.

The Governor also released the AI Governance Report

published by OP Jindal Global University on the occasion.
