Bankura, 24 April (H.S.): A case of alleged assault on a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader has come to light a day after polling in West Bengal. The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Shaltora area under Jaipur police station in Bankura district. The injured, Zakir Khan, holds the position of Karmadhyaksha in the Jaipur Panchayat Samiti.

According to local TMC workers, Zakir Khan had an altercation with a group of individuals on Friday morning, following which he was allegedly attacked and beaten. He was initially taken to the Jaipur Block Primary Health Centre and later referred to Bishnupur Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Block-level TMC leadership has alleged that BJP supporters were behind the attack. However, BJP leaders have rejected the claim, stating that the incident is a result of internal factionalism within the TMC.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on the day of polling, the police have arrested four individuals in connection with the assault on BJP candidate Debasish Ojha and vandalism of his vehicle in the Kajipara area of Labhpur in Birbhum district. The arrests were made on Thursday night, and the accused were produced before the Bolpur sub-divisional court on Friday morning.

The Police have taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and registered a case. Reports indicate that a TMC leader’s name has also surfaced in connection with the matter.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into both incidents as political tensions remain high in the state following the polling.
