
Asansol, 23 April (H.S.): Amid the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, tension was reported from the Asansol South Assembly constituency. A clash broke out near Booth No. 135 in the Rahamatnagar area, creating a brief atmosphere of panic during polling.
During the same time, BJP candidate Agnimitra Paul came under attack. According to reports, she was visiting various polling booths in her constituency when unidentified miscreants targeted her convoy near the Rahamatnagar booth.
The attackers allegedly pelted stones at her vehicle, damaging the rear windshield. However, no injuries were reported in the incident, and Agnimitra Paul remained completely safe.
Following the attack, she strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “murder of democracy.” The BJP candidate has lodged a formal complaint at Hirapur Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway.
The incident has heightened political tension in the area during the ongoing polling process. However, the administration has stated that the situation is under control.
