Guwahati, 23 April (HS): Egg prices have witnessed another sharp increase in the state, with the cost rising by ₹30 per plate due to supply constraints.
According to market sources, the price of a plate of eggs, which was earlier ₹170, has now gone up to ₹200. Similarly, the cost of a cartoon of eggs has increased from ₹1,150 to ₹1,200.
Traders have attributed the price hike to a rise in the cost of eggs sourced from outside the state. The increase is primarily due to reduced production in other states, leading to limited supply and higher procurement prices.
The sudden surge in egg prices is likely to impact household budgets as well as small businesses dependent on egg-based food items.---------------
