Murshidabad, 23 April (H.S.): Amid the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, a serious incident of violence has been reported from Naoda in the Murshidabad district. Allegations have surfaced that crude bombs were hurled targeting Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Sahina Mamtaz Khan just ahead of polling on Wednesday evening.
The incident reportedly took place in the Shibnagar area of Naoda, located around 50 meters from a polling booth. The late-night explosion created panic among residents and led to a tense atmosphere in the locality.
The police and security forces rushed to the spot soon after receiving the information and took steps to bring the situation under control. Taking the matter seriously, the Election Commission has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the district administration regarding the steps initiated so far.
TMC leaders have alleged that individuals linked to Humayun Kabir’s Aamjanata Vikas Party might be behind the attack. However, Humayun Kabir has strongly denied these allegations.
Earlier as well, incidents of assault on TMC workers were reported from the same area, contributing to rising tensions in Naoda.
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer stated that except for a few isolated incidents, polling across the state has largely remained peaceful.
