Guwahati, 20 April (HS): A tragic incident occurred in Maligaon area of Guwahati following heavy rainfall, where a woman lost her life after falling into an open manhole amid artificial flooding late Sunday night.

According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Payel Nath, a resident of Dharapur. She was reportedly swept into a drain due to the strong flow of rainwater caused by incessant downpour in the city.

Soon after the incident, a search operation was launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Despite adverse weather conditions and strong currents, the rescue team continued its efforts through the night.

The SDRF personnel later recovered the woman and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The incident has raised concerns over open manholes and inadequate safety measures during heavy rains in the city.------------
