New Delhi, 20 April (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday underlined the central role of agriculture in India’s prosperity and described farmers as the nation’s food providers, saying their hard work and dedication ensure the country’s progress.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister shared a Sanskrit subhashita:
“कृषिर्धन्या कृषिर्मेध्या जन्तूनां जीवनं कृषिः।
अन्नदः सर्वदश्चैव तस्माच्छ्रेष्ठतरो हि सः॥”
The verse conveys that agriculture brings wealth, purifies wisdom, and serves as the very basis of life for all living beings. It also states that the farmer who grows food for the world is truly the greatest giver, because without food no other form of charity or gift can sustain life.
The Prime Minister’s message placed renewed emphasis on the importance of farmers in strengthening the nation’s economy, food security and long-term development.
