Guwahati, 20 April (HS): All educational institutions within the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) area remained closed on Monday following a government order issued in the wake of flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in the city on April 19 and 20 intervening night.

According to the official directive issued by District Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kamrup Metropolitan, Swapneel Paul, IAS, the closure applies to all government and private educational institutions. The decision has been taken in the larger public interest to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the prevailing situation.

The order was issued under the provisions of Section 30(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, empowering authorities to take necessary measures during emergencies.

The notification has been circulated to key departments, including the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Directors of Higher and Secondary Education, and other concerned officials, for information and necessary action.----------
