Guwahati, 20 April (HS): Amid fresh incidents of waterlogging triggered by heavy rainfall, AIUDF legislator Rafiqul Islam has sharply criticised the government, alleging failure to address the recurring flash flood problem in the city.
Expressing concern over the situation, Islam stated that even minimal rainfall continues to disrupt normal life in Guwahati, with several areas getting inundated. He noted that flooded roads and traffic snarls forced authorities to shut down schools, while reports also emerged of vehicles being swept away in waterlogged stretches.
The MLA questioned the effectiveness of measures taken so far, claiming that despite significant financial expenditure, there has been little improvement on the ground. He alleged that the absence of scientific and long-term planning has worsened the situation.
Highlighting repeated assurances by the government, Islam said the issue remains unresolved despite multiple promises. He urged the authorities to act promptly and adopt practical solutions to prevent such crises from recurring in the future.-----------
