Sudhakaran hits back at Pinarayi, rejects ‘Opportunist’ charge
G.Sudhakaran

Alappuzha, 02 April (H.S.):Senior political leader G. Sudhakaran on Wednesday launched a sharp counterattack against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, rejecting allegations of opportunism and asserting that he remains firmly grounded in his political convictions.

Responding to Vijayan’s recent remark that those adopting opportunistic positions would “sink into the marshes of history,” Sudhakaran said he had “not fallen into any swamp” and continues to stand on solid ground. He added that he knows well how to navigate political challenges and remain steadfast.

Sudhakaran, who is contesting from Ambalappuzha with the backing of the United Democratic Front (UDF), accused the Chief Minister of distorting history and targeting him unfairly. He took a swipe at Vijayan’s comments on historical awareness, stating that those who once “climbed coconut trees during the Punnapra-Vayalar struggle” now project themselves as towering figures of the freedom movement.

He also criticised remarks attributed to political leaders about age and relevance, questioning whether such statements should apply to Vijayan himself. “If those above 75 years are to be sidelined, does that not include the Chief Minister?” Sudhakaran asked.

The veteran leader further alleged that certain decisions within the political system, including term limits, were designed to edge out leaders like him. He claimed that he had initially dismissed such concerns but has now come to recognise their intent.

Clarifying his political position, Sudhakaran emphasised that he is not an independent candidate of the UDF, but rather an independent supported by the alliance.

His remarks signal an intensifying political confrontation in Alappuzha, with sharp exchanges underscoring the high-stakes nature of the electoral battle in the constituency.
