Mumbai, 02 Apr (HS): The Nashik District Court has
remanded fraudster Ashok Kharat to police custody till April 8, in another case
filed against him. On Thursday Kharat was presented in the court via video
conferencing mode, in another case of sexual exploitation of women. Kharat’s
police custody in the first case ended on Wednesday and the court had granted
him magisterial custody. However, on Thursday he was remanded to police custody
by the court in another case filed against him.
The SIT preferred presenting Kharat through virtual
mode on security grounds. Government Pleader Adv Shailendra Bagde informed the
court that Kharat misled a woman complainant and sexually exploited her. When
she became pregnant Kharat compelled her to consume some medicines for abortion.
Investigation into the drug was in progress.
Kharat lawyer Sachin Bhate argued that Ashok Khara
is in police custody for the last 15 days and there is no need for fresh police
custody in different cases. Looking at the seriousness of the offences
registered against Ashok Kharat, the court has rejected Bhate’s arguments and
granted police custody till April 8.
