New Delhi, 02 April (H.S.):

Parliament will be summoned for two or three days this month to address the Women's Reservation Bill, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. He announced the current proceedings stand adjourned today, with reconvening slated in 2-3 weeks to deliberate a very important bill, though specifics remain undisclosed.

The minister revealed consultations with over 80% of political parties, aiming for consensus passage.

Opposition Demands

Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge called for an all-party meeting, affirming Congress supports women's reservation but insists on broader input. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had earlier written urging a post-assembly poll session.

Rijiju noted today's Rajya Sabha proceedings cover the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill and Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Bill. Passage of the long-pending Women's Reservation Bill promises enhanced female representation in Parliament and assemblies, with the government now appearing proactive.
