New Delhi, 02 April (H.S.):
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that the House would be adjourned today and reconvened soon to deliberate on a very important bill.
Rijiju's statement addressed opposition queries on extending the Budget Session or adjourning sine die, noting prior consultations and a meeting in a few weeks to finalize strategy.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh questioned government intent, recalling demands for immediate Women's Reservation Bill implementation post-2024 elections. He accused delays in census and delimitation, alleging renewed activity ahead of Bengal and Tamil Nadu polls.
Congress President and LoP Mallikarjun Kharge supported the bill but criticized timing for electoral gain, demanding an all-party meeting for consensus.
AAP's Sanjay Singh echoed calls for transparency.
Rijiju announced passage of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill and Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, urging cooperation on women's reservation without politicization.
Leader of the House JP Nadda highlighted the Nari Shakti Vandan Act's swift passage under PM Modi after decades of prior failures, appealing for a focus on empowerment and Viksit Bharat.
