Nadia, 18 April (H.S.): Tension gripped Nabadwip in West Bengal’s Nadia district after the semi-nude body of an unidentified woman was recovered near the Nabadwip Bishnupriya Halt railway station on Saturday morning.

According to reports, the body was found in a bush near the far end of the up platform by local residents, who immediately alerted the police. Personnel from Nabadwip Police Station rushed to the spot, along with railway police, and initiated an investigation.

The woman, estimated to be between 40 and 42 years old, has not yet been identified. Locals claimed that she was not from the area, as no one recognized her. The body was taken to Nabadwip State General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. It has since been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The incident has triggered strong reactions among residents, with many raising concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the area. Locals alleged that anti-social activities have been ongoing in the vicinity for a long time, and questioned whether this incident was a consequence of the same. Visible anger and anxiety were evident among residents, particularly regarding women’s safety.

Amid the political backdrop ahead of elections, BJP candidate from Nabadwip, Shruti Shekhar Goswami, visited the spot after learning about the incident. She interacted with locals and criticized the state’s law and order situation.

“This is the reality of ‘peace’ in Nabadwip. There may not be bombs exploding day and night, but there is a silent terror prevailing. People will give a reply,” she said, while also demanding a proper and impartial investigation into the woman’s death.
