Amritsar, 18 April (H.S.): Uttarakhand Governor and Lieutenant General (Retd.) Gurmit Singh on Saturday paid obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar. On the occasion, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami extended a warm welcome and honored him with a siropa and a symbolic model of Sri Darbar Sahib.

Speaking to the media, Governor Gurmit Singh expressed his deep emotional connection with the holy city, stating that he was born in Jalal Usma village of Amritsar district. Recalling his early days, he shared that even when he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, he had visited Sri Darbar Sahib to seek blessings. He said that visiting the shrine brings immense peace and spiritual energy.

The Governor offered prayers for the well-being, prosperity, and peace of the nation and humanity, with special prayers for the people of Uttarakhand and Punjab. He highlighted the supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the message of unity given by Guru Nanak Dev Ji as a source of inspiration for the entire world.

During the visit, Gurmit Singh also informed that the ropeway project for the sacred Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand will begin soon, as the agreement for the project has been finalized. He said the initiative would significantly ease travel and enhance accessibility for pilgrims.

The Governor also appreciated the Central Government’s initiatives such as the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor and the observance of Veer Bal Diwas, calling them historic decisions.
