New Delhi, 18 April (H.S.):

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has sharply criticised opposition parties for their role in the failure of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, asserting that their “anti‑women” position will be directly questioned by every woman in their respective constituencies. The bill, aimed at advancing women’s political representation, fell short of the required two‑thirds majority in the Lok Sabha and was subsequently defeated.

Addressing the outcome in a post on X, CM Gupta alleged that the opposition had collectively decided “at any cost” to prevent women from securing a stronger foothold in the Lok Sabha. “The truth is, they only care about women in their families and not the 70 crore women of the country,” she said, underscoring what she described as a prioritisation of partisan politics over substantive gender justice.

CM Gupta further claimed that many opposition parties had treated the women’s reservation issue as a mere bargaining chip rather than a rights‑based agenda. She warned that the decision to block the bill would not remain confined to parliamentary records, predicting that women voters would deliberately hold these parties accountable during future elections in their constituencies.
