Kolkata, 18 April (H.S.): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that the state government is using its resources to support illegal infiltrators.

Addressing an election rally in Kalimpong, Sarma said that if Banerjee is not removed from power, Bengal could “slip out of control” in the future.

He claimed that while governments led by his party in Assam and Tripura have taken strict steps to prevent illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, such activities continue unchecked in West Bengal.

Accusing Banerjee of indulging in vote-bank politics, Sarma alleged that the state exchequer has been “opened up for infiltrators” under her leadership. He further claimed that Bengal has suffered overall during her tenure and that development in North Bengal has been neglected.

Sarma asserted that a change in government is necessary in the state. He said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in West Bengal, illegal infiltrators would be identified and removed.

The Assam Chief Minister also touched upon the Gorkhaland issue, stating that his party would seek a constitutional solution and ensure justice for the Gorkha community if voted to power.
