Tezpur (Assam), 18 April (HS): A major liquor smuggling racket involving supplies meant for Army personnel was busted near Misamari railway station in Assam, with authorities seizing around 150 cases of liquor during a joint operation on April 17.

The consignment, originally intended for sale through Canteen Stores Department (CSD) outlets, was intercepted while being illegally moved out of the depot premises in the Missamari area. The operation was carried out jointly by Assam Police, the Tezpur-based Gajraj Intelligence Unit and local Army authorities following specific intelligence inputs.

Officials said the smuggling exposed a well-coordinated attempt to divert restricted CSD supplies into unauthorized channels. The timely interception prevented the illegal distribution of the consignment and highlighted the effectiveness of inter-agency coordination in tackling such activities.

An FIR has been registered at Misamari Police Station and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend all those involved in the racket.-----------
