Itanagar, 18 April (HS): Swift action by Itanagar Police led to the arrest of an Arunachal Armed Police Battalion (AAPBN) constable within hours of an FIR being registered in connection with the alleged gifting of a live 9mm bullet, officials informed.

According to police sources, the incident came to light after a video showing an unidentified individual handing over a bullet to Gumin Mize of the Anti-Drugs Warrior NGO went viral on social media, triggering public concern and prompting immediate intervention by law enforcement agencies.

Following the complaint, a special team headed by SDPO Itanagar Chera Saban, along with Chimpu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector N. Nishant and Sub-Inspector Sanjeet Jha, initiated a coordinated probe to identify the person involved.

Using a combination of technical surveillance and ground-level inputs, the police team was able to trace and apprehend the accused within four hours of the case being registered. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police (Itanagar Capital Region) Jummar Basar.

The arrested individual has been identified as Ngelong Ngemu, a constable of the AAPBN. A case has been registered against him under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act.

Police stated that the accused is currently in custody and further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects related to the incident.------------
