Guwahati, 16 April (HS): A 50-member team of the Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), comprising MPs, ministers, MLAs, and senior state office-bearers, has reached West Bengal to campaign for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled in two phases on April 23 and 29.
According to an official statement issued by Assam BJP spokesperson Pranjal Kalita, the team will fan out across various constituencies in West Bengal to strengthen the party’s outreach and election campaign. The move is part of a broader strategy as elections are being held simultaneously in four states and one Union Territory, making the West Bengal contest particularly significant for the party.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has already arrived in West Bengal and is set to address multiple large public rallies in key constituencies including Cooch Behar, Kalchini, and Phansidewa. His campaign schedule includes addressing three major rallies in each of these assembly segments.
The campaign team includes several prominent leaders such as cabinet ministers Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Mallabaruah, Ranjit Kumar Das, Bimal Bora, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, and Rupesh Gowala, along with senior leaders Kripanath Mallah, Rajdeep Roy, Krishnendu Paul, Kaushik Rai, and MP Parimal Suklabaidya. Many of them have already begun campaign activities in different parts of the state.
The party leadership views the West Bengal elections as crucial, with BJP leaders expressing confidence based on what they describe as favourable public sentiment and media assessments indicating growing support for the NDA in the state.---------------
