Ballia,
April 15 (HS): Officials suspended two police inspectors on Wednesday after they
reportedly used harsh and profane language during a phone discussion with a
33-year-old rape survivor. Action was taken against Station House Officer (SHO)
Sanjay Shukla and Crime Branch Inspector Naresh Malik after an audio tape
supposedly featuring the latter went popular on social media on Monday,
according to reports. According to authorities, Malik can be heard speaking in
an inappropriate manner to the woman in the video.
The
case involves a complaint filed on February 20 at the Ubhaon police station based
on the woman's allegation. She said that Ugrasen Kumar Jaiswal, a forest
department sub-inspector, raped her for six months on the guise of marriage.
She further said he threatened to murder her if she continued the case.
According
to the police, a FIR has been issued against Jaiswal under relevant provisions
of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In a separate complaint to the deputy inspector
general of police, the survivor said that Shukla and Malik had contacted her
and used abusive and filthy language, seeking to meet alone and offering help
in her case. Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh said the case came to his
attention on Monday, and both inspectors were suspended with immediate effect. According
to Singh, an inquiry into the claims has been ordered, and Additional
Superintendent of Police (North) Dinesh Kumar Shukla has been appointed to
investigate the subject. Following the submission of the inquiry report,
individuals found guilty would face severe consequences, according to SP.
