
Birbhum, 15 April (H.S.): Tension spread in Nalhati after the mutilated body of a fish trader was recovered from a field, triggering panic in the area. Preliminary reports suggest that the victim was beaten and attacked with sharp weapons.
The deceased has been identified as Mukul Sheikh (42), a resident of Pakhagram under Nalhati Police Station limits. He was engaged in the fish trade.
According to sources, local residents spotted his severely injured body lying in a field on Wednesday morning and immediately informed the police. The police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Family members have alleged that Mukul Sheikh was brutally assaulted and later killed with sharp weapons. However, the motive behind the murder and the identities of those involved remain unclear.
Police officials stated that an investigation has been initiated and efforts are underway to determine whether the victim had any prior disputes or enmity.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area, with locals demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
