Guwahati, 15 April (HS): Backing key electoral reforms, Atul Bora on Wednesday voiced firm support for both delimitation and women’s reservation, asserting that such measures would strengthen democratic representation in the state.

Highlighting the need for delimitation, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president pointed out that while Assam’s population has grown considerably over the years, the number of constituencies has remained unchanged. He maintained that revising constituency boundaries in line with population growth would be beneficial and reiterated that the party has long been advocating for the move.

On women’s reservation, Bora stressed the importance of enhancing women’s participation in politics, stating that greater representation is essential for inclusive governance. He also referred to initiatives undertaken by the government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, noting that several schemes have already been implemented to promote women’s empowerment in the state.

The remarks come at a time when discussions around electoral restructuring and gender inclusion in governance are gaining momentum.------------
