New Delhi, 14 April (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor today. This approximately 213-kilometer-long six-lane access-controlled corridor has been constructed at a cost exceeding ₹12,000 crore. The project will impart fresh momentum to connectivity among Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) shared this information on the eve of the program.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has also posted a brief description of the Prime Minister's significant event today, accompanied by his photograph, on X.
According to the PMO, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh today. Around 11:15 AM, the Prime Minister will travel to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh to inspect the elevated section of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor over the wildlife corridor. Approximately at 11:40 AM, he will perform worship at 'Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple' near Dehradun. Thereafter, around 12:30 PM, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor at a public event in Dehradun and address the gathered assembly.
Key Features of the Corridor
-Its standout feature is that the current travel time from Delhi to Dehradun, which exceeds 6 hours, will shrink to about 2.5 hours upon commissioning. This will offer travelers a swift, secure, and seamless journey.
-The project incorporates 10 interchanges, three railway overbridges (ROBs), four major bridges, and 12 wayside amenities. Additionally, an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) has been installed for superior traffic control and safety.
-With environmental conservation in mind, the corridor features several innovative provisions. To safeguard wildlife and mitigate human-wildlife conflicts, a 12-kilometer-long 'wildlife elevated corridor' has been constructed—one of Asia's longest. Furthermore, it includes eight animal underpasses, two 200-meter elephant underpasses each, and a 370-meter-long tunnel near Daat Kali Temple.
-This corridor will play a pivotal role in spurring regional economic growth, boosting tourism, and unlocking new trade opportunities. The project stands as an exemplary model of harmonizing cutting-edge infrastructure with ecological equilibrium.
