
Kolkata, 13 April (H.S.) : Election authorities have intensified surveillance measures in South Kolkata amid the ongoing electoral process, with significant cash seizures and enhanced security arrangements reported.
According to officials, the District Election Officer (DEO), South Kolkata, stated during a press conference on Monday evening that cash seizures have reached Rs 8.94 crore. Of this, Rs 8.14 crore had been recovered till Monday morning, with an additional Rs 80 lakh seized later in the day.
In terms of voting-related data, a total of 4,774 postal ballots have been recorded so far in South Kolkata. Additionally, 2,875 offline cases linked to tribunal appeals are currently under process.
Providing details on law and order, officials said that 32 arms and 83 rounds of ammunition have been seized across Kolkata as part of pre-poll security measures.
Regarding polling infrastructure, South Kolkata has 1,093 polling stations, of which over 400 booths have been categorised as sensitive and highly sensitive. These locations are under enhanced security deployment.
Authorities also confirmed that polling booths have been set up in high-rise buildings, including locations such as Asha Corporate and South City, which fall under the Rashbehari Assembly constituency.
To ensure free and fair elections, 30 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed across South Kolkata. Officials подчеркнули that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain peace and ensure a smooth polling process.
