Guwahati, 13 April (HS): In a major crackdown, city police have apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals, exposing a network involved in illegal infiltration and preparation of forged documents.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Munni Akhtar (22), Moor Salim Sheikh (32), Musammat Mukta Sheikh (25), wife of Moor Salim Sheikh and a minor. Police said all four are currently being held at Dispur Police Station until further procedures for their deportation to Bangladesh are completed.

According to police sources, all the arrested individuals had entered Assam through a broker identified as Asif Ali, who arranged their travel and accommodation. The operation was carried out by the border police from the Sasal area of Guwahati, where the accused had been hiding since April 10.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the group was planning to travel onward to Mumbai. The arrested include a man, a woman, and a child. Another accused, Mohammad Akkash Ali, a driver-cum-agent from Barpeta district, has also been arrested for allegedly facilitating fake voter ID cards for the infiltrators.

Investigators further found that the four had managed to obtain voter identity cards from Barpeta district, raising serious concerns over identity verification and possible misuse of electoral documents.

Police confirmed that the man seen wearing a red T-shirt at the scene has been identified as broker Asif Ali. A case (No. 207/2026) has been registered at Dispur Police Station against Mohammad Akkash Ali under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Further investigation is underway to trace others involved and dismantle the entire network.---------
