
Mumbai, 13 Apr (HS): Maharashtra Government will
nominate members on Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), instead of conducting
elections. The amendment in the Maharashtra Medical Council Act 1965 was
approved on Monday. The MMC is the apex body regulating medicl profession,
registration and medical education.
A committee to suggest under the Director, Medical
Education and Research (DMER) was formed to make suggestions to the government
for regulating medical education, and profession. Dr Anand Bang, Dr Kailsah
Sharma, Dr Vikas Mahatme were the members of the committee. The committee has
suggested balanced nomination of medical experts and those in medical education.
The number of members of the MMC has been increased to 23 from 18.
