Dehradun, April 12 (H.S.) — Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan honoured UCOST Director General Prof. Durgesh Pant for his outstanding contributions to the field of science and technology at a national conference held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The conference was organised as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of ITITI and Doon Sanskriti School, focusing on the theme “Transforming Tribal Life through Science and Technology.”

During a technical session, Prof. Pant highlighted that science and technology not only simplify lives but also play a vital role in improving livelihoods, healthcare, education, and conservation of natural resources in tribal communities. He emphasized the importance of integrating local resources and traditional knowledge with modern technology to achieve sustainable development.

He noted that in a mountainous state like Uttarakhand, there is immense potential for scientific intervention in areas such as water conservation, biodiversity protection, and clean energy. By promoting skill development, digital empowerment, and scientific awareness in tribal regions, youth can be made self-reliant. Prof. Pant added that when science is applied in accordance with local needs, it can bring lasting and positive changes in the lives of tribal communities, while also contributing to the overall development of the state.

The Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) actively participated in the event, showcasing the state’s scientific progress and technological innovations at the national level. As part of the silver jubilee celebrations of Doon Sanskriti School, UCOST presented models demonstrating rural development and ecological conservation through science and technology.

Representatives from UCOST also interacted with participants, highlighting the importance of scientific initiatives and innovation centres in the state. The programme underscored that ITITI and UCOST are jointly working towards making Uttarakhand’s youth technologically skilled and culturally enriched.

Among those present on the occasion were educationist Dr. Reema Pant, Prahlad Adhikari, Dr. Rajendra Rana, Vikas Nautiyal, Archit Pandey, Kumar Roshan, Sandeep Manral, and others.
