Chandigarh, 12 April (H.S.): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday highlighted the success of the state’s education reforms, stating that the ongoing ‘Sikhya Kranti’ is delivering transformative results on the ground. The statement came as daughters from ordinary families dominated the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 8 merit list, securing 19 out of the top 20 positions.

Honouring the meritorious students at his residence in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister announced that the top 20 students would be granted direct admission to the prestigious Schools of Eminence without any entrance examination. This move, he said, reflects the government’s commitment to promoting merit and ensuring access to quality education.

CM Mann also awarded the top three students a cash prize of 50,000 each and encouraged them to remain humble, work hard, and choose the right role models. He described the performance of the students as a testament to the improved standards of government schools in Punjab, which are now emerging as a national benchmark.

Sharing details, the Chief Minister noted that the first position was secured by Tamanna from Faridkot with a perfect score of 600 out of 600. Japneet Kaur from Sangrur and Jashandeep Kaur from Faridkot secured the second and third positions respectively, both scoring 598 marks. Notably, all three toppers are also active in sports at state and national levels.

He further emphasised that the success of these students reflects the dedication of teachers and the support of parents, alongside the government’s continued investment in education infrastructure and quality learning. Out of the 2.62 lakh students who appeared for the examination, the top performers have demonstrated exceptional merit and capability.

Calling it a historic achievement, CM Mann pointed out that girls securing 19 out of the top 20 positions is a powerful example of their determination and excellence. He reiterated that the Punjab government is committed to bridging socio-economic gaps through education and providing every child with opportunities to succeed.

Senior officials, including PSEB Chairman Dr. Amarpal Singh and Secretary School Education Sonali Giri, were also present at the event.
