
Jammu, 12 April (H.S.): Baldev Raj Sharma, MLA of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi constituency, today launched the works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) at Saraswati Chowk, Panchayat Arli Hansali, in Sub-Division Katra.
The project is being undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore and aims to significantly strengthen and modernize the power distribution infrastructure in the region, in line with the vision of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to ensure 24×7 reliable and quality electricity supply to every household.
Under this scheme, a total of 10 stations will be upgraded, namely:
Panthal, Serli, Kotli Bajalian, Chintamani, Aghar Jitto, Moori, Kun, Sukhalghati, Jammu Road, and Katra.
The scope of work under the project included, laying of LT cable/wire: 110 km, augmentation and replacement of transformers: 85 units, installation of LT poles (8 meters): 700 poles, installation of LT poles (9 meters): 150 poles and installation of poles (11 meters): 150 poles.
The project focuses on reducing power losses, replacing bare conductors with insulated cables to curb hooking, upgrading low-capacity transformers, and replacing damaged infrastructure, thereby ensuring reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply.
The works are being implemented by NTPC Limited as the implementing agency, with execution on a turnkey basis by Laser Power & Infra Ltd. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA emphasized that this initiative is a long-term step towards strengthening power infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted electricity for residents, businesses, and pilgrims visiting the holy town of Katra. He also appealed to the public for their cooperation during execution, especially during necessary HT/LT shutdowns.
