Barabanki,
April 10 (HS): An Army jawan claims he was beaten by supporters of a Samajwadi
Party MLA after objecting to the legislator's alleged statements on Prime
Minister Narendra Modi at a public gathering here, police said on Friday. On
Thursday evening, the event occurred in Hansemau village, which falls under the
jurisdiction of Satrikh police station. The complainant, Vikas Deep, an Army
soldier for the previous 18 years, stated that he is now on leave and visiting
his native village.
In
his complaint, Deep said that at the public meeting, Suresh Yadav, a Samajwadi
Party (SP) MLA from Barabanki (Sadar), made offensive remarks against the prime
minister. When he calmly objected and grabbed the microphone to condemn the
profanity used, the MLA's supporters verbally and physically harassed him.
The
soldier stated that he was injured after being hit and kicked. He was rescued
by others on the scene. He sought to file a FIR and take legal action against
Yadav and his followers. Deep claimed he had also alerted Army officials about
the event. Sher Bahadur Singh, the programme's coordinator, disputed the
charges of assault. Yadav was addressing a group about his efforts when Jawan
attempted to steal the microphone, disturbing the proceedings. There was a
strong throng at the arena. There was some jostling, but no violence occurred,
he claimed. D K Singh, Station House Officer in Satrikh, stated that a report
had been received on the occurrence, and the subject had also came to the
police's attention via social media. The inquiry is ongoing, and necessary
action will be taken depending on the results, he stated.
